Buckingham, VA - The Buckingham County Governance Team has achieved the prestigious designation of a VSBA Master Board. The team demonstrated its commitment to excellence by attending four professional development sessions, totaling over 25 hours, between February and May 15, 2023. Virginia School Boards Association staff facilitated discussions centered on enhancing team-building skills, improving communication, listening, and developing constructive board behaviors. School Board Chair, Theresa Bryant, expressed her gratitude for the hard work and dedication of the governance team and Superintendent, Dr. John Keeler. She said, "I would like to thank members of our
governance team and Superintendent, Dr. John Keeler, for their dedication and active participation throughout the process of becoming a Master Board. The Buckingham County School Governance Team is more “U-Knight-ed” than ever before because of our dedication and commitment to our county."
The VSBA offers custom-designed professional development activities and training to school boards throughout Virginia based on their specific needs. The VSBA Master Board Training program is an intensive series of activities and modules that include personality assessments, team-building exercises, and discussion prompts focused on building a cohesive team and improving communication skills. The VSBA Executive Director, Gina Patterson, commended the Buckingham County Governance Team for its outstanding achievement, saying, "To become a Master Board takes time, energy, and a deep understanding of good board governance. I would like to congratulate the Buckingham County Governance Team for this great accomplishment."
